Choose a barcode format, check a known EAN-13 example, and inspect the quiet zones and printed size before using a label.
Choose the barcode format required by the system that will scan it. A picture of bars is not enough: the encoded value, format, contrast, blank margins and printed size all affect whether the label is usable.
Worked example: Check a known EAN-13 value
Input
4006381333931 in EAN-13 format.
Expected result
A barcode for that 13-digit value, with a final check digit of 1.
This is a format-checking example, not an allocation of a retail product number. A barcode generator does not register a product identifier or establish ownership of one.
Before you use the result
- Preserve blank space on both sides of the bars.
- Keep strong contrast and avoid stretching the image unevenly.
- Scan the exported and printed label with the system you intend to use.
If the result is not what you expected
The barcode scans on screen but not on paper.
Check print scaling, blur and margins. Print at the intended size and test again; a successful screen scan is not a print-quality check.
